Russell Brand’s TikTok says he’s “been a Christian for three months.” Podcasts, reels, and news sites are running with the headline. I’m glad any soul is drawn to Jesus, but let’s pump the brakes before we start quoting Mr. Brand like he’s Spurgeon.

Here are three quick reasons we should pray for him, not platform him.

1. He’s Still Sorting Out What “Christian” Means

Brand admits he’s “struggling with not hearing God” and feels like Christ is “far away.” That’s normal for a baby believer, but it also means he hasn’t even settled into basics like assurance, daily Scripture intake, or church life. In other words, he’s in the nursery—not the pulpit.

2. His Past Message Was a Spiritual Smoothie

For years Brand blended New Age, Buddhism, Hinduism, and pop psychology into one feel-good milkshake. That worldview doesn’t get erased overnight. Until he publicly untangles syncretism from orthodoxy, he’s not a reliable guide to “mere Christianity.”

I watched a reel just tonight of him preaching on the beach after many baptisms. His language was quite mystical, and very evident that he’s not yet separated out his wrong belief system.

3. Celebrity Status Isn’t Accountability

Fame lets you curate your own highlight reel and dodge hard questions. But genuine discipleship happens in pews, living rooms, and honest conversations—not in comment sections. Brand needs a local church that knows his name, not a fanbase that clicks “like.”

4. Scripture Warns Against Insta-Leaders

Paul told Timothy not to install a “novice” as an elder, lest he be “lifted up with pride” (1 Tim. 3:6). If that’s true inside the local church, how much more in the wild world of YouTube? Brand needs discipleship, not a speaking tour.

What We Can Do

    1. Pray for clarity. Ask the Spirit to anchor him in sound doctrine, not trending topics.

    1. Point him to a healthy church. Real growth happens under shepherds who walk with him.

    1. Stop chasing celebrity conversions. The gospel doesn’t need a famous endorsement; it needs faithful witnesses.

Russell, if you truly have bowed the knee to King Jesus, welcome to the family. Now find a Bible-preaching fellowship, sit under the Word, and let older saints walk alongside you. We’ll rejoice when the fruit shows up—but until then, we’ll keep looking to the only perfect spokesperson for Christianity: Christ Himself.
