Misconceptions About God Series
You’ve probably seen it before—or maybe even felt it yourself:
“I’ve been doing right. I’ve been praying. Why isn’t God answering?”
Or worse: “I tithed… so why did I lose my job?”
Let’s get something straight:
God is not a vending machine.
You don’t punch in the right code and get what you want. He’s not some cosmic transaction machine where, if you say the right prayer, give the right amount, or serve in just the right way, He spits out blessings on command.
We don’t obey God to get something from Him.
We obey because He’s worthy—period.
Now, does God bless obedience? Yes. But those blessings might not look the way we expect. Sometimes His blessing is peace in the storm, not the removal of it. Sometimes it’s strength for the battle, not the absence of the fight.
The idea that “if I’m good, God owes me” is just Christian karma. And it’s not biblical. That mindset sets you up for disappointment and disillusionment—because life will throw you curveballs that don’t seem “fair.” Ask Job.
Here’s the truth:
God doesn’t work on a punch-card system.
He works on a relationship.
He’s not just interested in giving you good things—He wants you to become like Christ. And sometimes that means pruning. Sometimes that means pressure. But always, it means purpose.
So no, He’s not a vending machine. He’s your Father. And He knows what’s best even when we don’t.
Let’s not approach Him like a business deal.
Let’s come to Him as sons and daughters—trusting, surrendered, and grateful even when the blessings don’t look like we expected.
